Internet 101
By Anne M. Timbs - Roan Creek Elementary Media Specialist

This website will introduce the different aspects of the Internet and highlight the various ways to navigate and research on the web.  Click on the words below to find out more.
The Internet is a connection of computers all over the world.  They are joined together through Internet connections and can "talk" to each other.  When you look at a website you are really looking at something that is on another computer (server) somewhere else in the world.  The server may be down the hall in your school building, in an office in New York City, or in someone's house in England.  These computer connections allow you to send electronic mail (e-mail) to another person's computer, look at pictures that have been placed on someone's Internet server, gather and share information about a topic you are researching, and even play a game with someone on the other side of the world.
