Surfing the Web



  

    Navigating, or finding your way around, the Internet is simple when you know the right buttons to push.  This is often called "Surfing the Web".  Read and follow the instructions below to learn how to "surf".

Home Page:  When you open the Internet your computer will go to the home page that is set up in  your computer.  (At school the computers will open to the Roan Creek Elementary Page.)  From here you can go anywhere. 

* If you have a specific Internet address (URL- Uniform Resource Locator) you can type it in the address box on the toolbar. 

* You can also follow hyperlinks that lead from one page to another.  A hyperlink is usually in blue type and is underlined, like this:  hyperlink
When you move the arrow over an active hyperlink it will turn into a hand like this:  
Try to find the hyperlink in the box below.  When you find it click on it.

      After you have clicked on a hyperlink it will sometimes turn a different color to show you that you have already been to that page.  It will look like this:  hyperlink

*  After you have followed a hyperlink you can always get back to where you started by clicking on the back button on the toolbar.  Try it out by following this hyperlink:  Test your back button.

 

*  A picture can be a hyperlink too!  Move your cursor over the pictures below.  You will see the hand () when you have found the hyperlink.

 

*  Click on any of the hyperlinks below to go on.
