First Grade Library Lesson Plans

*** FELLOW LIBRARIANS: OVER THE YEARS I HAVE HAD MANY LIBRARIANS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY CONTACT ME ABOUT MY LIBRARY CURRICULUM. I AM HAPPY TO SHARE ANYTHING THAT I HAVE. IF YOU USE THIS SITE YOU WILL WANT TO COPY/PRINT WHAT YOU NEED. I AM CHANGING MY CURRICULUM TO ONE THAT IS PROJECT-BASED AND THESE PAGES WILL BE GONE IN A FEW WEEKS.

First graders meet once every six days for 40 minutes.  During the first semester students learn how to use the library, the difference between fiction and nonfiction and they learn what authors and illustrators do.  In the second semester students learn about specific authors and illustrators such as Marc Brown, Lois Ehlert, and Arnold Lobel.
